Teeth whitening
We’ll make your smile sparkle again
If your teeth are dull and stained, whitening is a quick and easy way to restore their shine.
What is teeth whitening?
Teeth whitening is a cosmetic process that removes stains and discolouration from the enamel of your teeth, improving their appearance. We use Zoom! Whitespeed technology, which combines hydrogen peroxide gel and a special blue LED light, to make your teeth up to eight shades whiter in one appointment. We can also create you a kit to use at home which contains custom fitted trays and a professional whitening agent. You can use this kit for ongoing treatment and touch-ups.
What do I need to know about teeth whitening?
Not everyone is a good candidate for teeth whitening. If you have poor dental health, active decay, or a history of tooth sensitivity, it may not be suitable for you. In that case, there are other options we can explore. Teeth whitening works best on yellow stains but is not as effective on brown or grey stains, or on tooth restorations like fillings and crowns. Professional teeth whitening is the safest, most effective, and longest lasting method of brightening your smile. Over-the-counter whitening products may be cheaper, but you risk damaging the enamel on your teeth or making them sensitive.
What other treatments are available?
Depending on your situation, some of the following treatment options might be recommended to transform your smile.
Common questions about teeth whitening
-
If you have good oral health, no current cavities, lightly stained teeth, and no pre-existing tooth sensitivity, then you are a good candidate for professional teeth whitening. If you aren’t sure whether teeth whitening is right for you, get in touch with us to find out more.
-
The results of a professional whitening treatment normally last between 12 and 24 months. To help keep your teeth from becoming discoloured again, make sure you follow a good oral hygiene routine, avoid staining drinks like coffee, tea, and red wine, and use your at-home touch-up kit.
-
If you have sensitive or badly stained teeth, professional teeth whitening might not be the best option for you, but that doesn’t mean you have to live with a discoloured smile. Treatments like porcelain veneers and dental bonding can provide you with long-lasting, beautiful white teeth.
-
Done properly, whitening is safe for your teeth and your gums. However, overuse of home bleaching products can erode your enamel. Over-the-counter kits can damage your gums, because generic trays do not create a good seal around your teeth and can allow some of the whitening product to leak out.
-
Most people find teeth whitening to be painless. However, during and after your procedure, you might experience what we call “zingers”, which are little flashes of pain caused by the nerves in your teeth reacting to the treatment. Let us know if you experience any pain. We can give you a special toothpaste to help with any sensitivity.

The cost of getting your teeth whitened depends on whether you have a single in-office session or choose to take home whitening trays for touch-ups. Give our friendly reception team a call and they can let you know how much it will cost for your treatment.
